Evelyn Kustatscher

paleobotanist

Born in 1976 and living in Bolzano (BZ), I got my degree in Natural Sciences in 1999 at the University of Ferrara with a research entitled “La Flora Ladinica (Triassico Medio) delle Dolomiti” (“The Ladinian flora (Middle Triassic) of the Dolomites”) (supervisor Prof. C. Loriga Broglio). I did my research doctorate (PhD) (2000-2003) at the University of Ferrara with a thesis entitled “Macroflore terrestri del Triassico Medio delle Dolomiti e loro inquadramento biocronostratigrafico e paleoclimatico mediante palinomorfi” (Terrestrial Macrofloras of the Middle Triassic of the Dolomites and their biostratigraphic and paleoclimatic setting by the use of palynomorphs) supervisors: Prof. C. Loriga Broglio e Prof. R. Posenato (Ferrara University), Prof. J.H.A. van Konijnenburg-van Cittert (Utrecht University) e Dr. G. Roghi (Padova University). In the last 10 years I participated at more than 25 conference and workshops with more than 50 contributions (poster and presentations) and published more than 30 publications in national and international journals (15 of those on journals with Impact Factor).

Present position

Since 2005 I work as scientific collaborator at the Naturmuseum Südtirol / Museo di Scienze Naturali Alto Adige (BZ) where I’m responsabile for the palaeontological collections and various scientific projects as well as for organisation of special exhibitions with geological background, workshops and special events (Darwinday, Night of research, Night at the museum). In 2009 I teached “Introduction to palaeobotany” at the University of Innsbruck for their master course.

Fields of research

  • Fossil plants of the Permo-Triassic of the Southern Alps: taxonomic studies, palaeoclimatic and palaeoenvironmental reconstructions
  • Middle Triassic fossil plants of Europe: palaeobiogeographic, palaeoclimatic and palaeoenvironmental reconstructions
  • Palynological analyses on the Middle Triassic of the Southern Alps biostratigraphical dating, palaeoclimatic and palaeoenvironmental purposes.
